Vivitar dc83000, Traveler DC-XZ6

Hi ,
Ive just made my first fine art print using the dc-zx6 .The picture shows the print along side the original
and was made on an epson 1290 using Pigment ink from USA It is 500mm x 350 mm including the 50mm border.I have been making prints of my art using the dc8300 up to now but the extra resolution should help when cropping due to format ratios.

Did you convert the photograph by using a photoshop filter? What were the settings?

My workflow is as follows:-

Setup original on a board and light it with a home made lighting rig .Take the image(TIF format)on Auto Settings with the camera on a mini- tripod using 2 sec delay feature. Transfer the sd card to a card reader. Load into Paintshop Pro. Correct any Geometrics,Crop and save to HDD as TIF. Open file in P.S. Elements check and adjust levels and sometimes tweak colour or saturation in variations on the min. settings.
When happy with the image I resize it to suit the printer at 360 dpi (epson native printer driver multiple)
and print @ the highest resolution using SRGB. I have assumed that the camera works in this colour space --- correct??

@WILT: If you always use the same setup and light source for the capture, it might be worthy to perform a manual white balance with the camera (unless you already did it).

You might also experience a higher geometric barrel distortion with the DC-XZ6 than with the DC8300 - which can be corrected in PS pro or PS Elements. This higher distortion of the XZ6 optics is a negative effect due to the 6x zoom feature. Alternatively, you can minimize the distortion by zooming one or two steps out of the wide angel range towards tele.

A few years ago I did something similar. I used a Photoshop filter: Kunst Filter (maybe Art Filter in English?); printed it on a canvas media and put it in a frame.

Hi Peter,

I think you may have misunderstood the images are of original paintings I have created, although I agree it is possible to create "art" from photo using the art effect filters. Here is another one done on the older 8.1 Mp camera

Thank you Peter,

I have tried to tell people on other forums that one can make wonderful prints from art work using these cameras but as you all know the prejudice against them is extreme.
That's why I was delighted to be here. I shall post the images of my work as I take them ready for printing. I am amazed by the lack of quality in the test images displayed on DPreview web site for Sony ,Canon, even, compacts ---the chromatic aberations in the lens corners etc seem far worse than Supras, Travelers et all
GO CHECK

Here is my simple lighting rig setup --- just a battery charger and 2 halogen 50 watt bulbs with baking paper diffusers. BUT IT WORKS !! You can see the DC-ZX6 on the little tripod on the biscuit tin has the image of the painting on its lcd .I will post the image when I've reduced it from an enormous Tiff to a web JPEG

Super. This shows that low tech works fine. The highest tech seems to be the XZ6.

I tried it...

My rig: a livingroom table, a minitripod, a back of a chair, a painting and - of course - a cam. The light source were daylight neon tubes.

The rig

The painting and result...

Ive just printed from this image and made it slightly oversize to fit a frame I had made for a different picture
with no signs of pixelation. Considering the format means you have to throw away half the image thats very good going for the camera !
